[interview] Silke (MGP 2026): «Forevermore », the light of tomorrow?
She rocked TikTok without you even knowing her face. Silke, The Norwegian producer and singer is stepping out of her studio booth this year to take to the stage at the Melodi Grand (MGP) Prix 2026.
For those who don't know you yet, who is Silke?
I'm a Norwegian artist and producer. This year I'm entering the Melodi Grand Prix 2026 with « Forevermore« a track I produced myself. It's a really exciting time for me.
How would you define your world?
I love the sound of Gospel and I also love electro à la Röyksopp. I like the combination of very pure voices, like those of Aurora or Susanne Sundfør, with very heavy synths and bass.
For those of you who, like me, have no musical background but dream of composing: what's the secret to marrying words and melody? How do you know that «it matches »?
That's an excellent question. For me, it's very intuitive. I often have a melody running through my head, and it's the sounds of the words that call up the melody. My advice is not to think too much at the beginning: just write what comes to you, even if it seems «wrong« ». You just have to come up with something. A bad song can always be reworked or turned into a better one, but you can't do anything from a blank page. The important thing is to follow the "» feeling of the sound even before the meaning of the words.
Let's talk about your link with JONE (5th at MGP 2023). Is that you singing «Ekko inni meg »?
Absolutely! Originally, I wasn't supposed to be on the demo. My boyfriend was producing the track and was looking for a female vocalist. We ended up recording my vocals in two hours, one New Year's Eve, in a small studio in Kragerø. We finished editing the track in our living room, with no idea that it would explode on TikTok.
You write for other artists, you have signed « Woman Show » at the MGP 2024. Why not continue to write for others and come to the MGP stage?
I love producing, but I needed to sing my own words. My advice to anyone who's on the fence about writing: don't overthink it, just go for it. You can always fix a bad song, but you can't do anything with a blank page.
«Forevermore » is the title you're presenting. What's it about exactly?
Above all, it's a song about hope. In the chorus, it's as if hope itself is speaking directly to you, saying: «Come to me and stay with me forever ». We live in a fast-paced world, where there's a lot of heavy stuff going on, and I wanted to bring that light to the MGP stage. My aim is to encourage people to follow their dreams. Dare to dream again, dare to have hope. We can all be that spark that makes the world a little better.
Do you already have everything in mind for the stage? Will there be dancing or other special elements?
I'm not sure what I'm allowed to say at this stage! But to give you an idea, at my first meeting with the staging team, I arrived with a ten-page document detailing everything I wanted, without worrying about the budget at all (laughs). And it looks like we're going to be able to do a lot of the things I'd imagined. My keywords were: «Epic « and "Silktopia ». I've never been to Tomorrowland, but I love the aesthetics of their scenes, it's totally crazy. Tomorrowland was really one of my major references for visuals.
What do you think of the other participants this year?
Everyone is so lovely! We had a promo day with NRK recently and the atmosphere is really great. The cool thing is the diversity of musical genres this year. A lot of us have a lot of live experience, so I think the standard of the shows will be very high.
Your Eurovision Top 3 «All Time »?
It's so hard to choose just three! But I'd say :
- Loreen - Euphoria : An unforgettable moment when she won.
- Alexander Rybak - Fairytale : For Norway, there's no denying it.
- Yohanna - Is It True? (Iceland 2009): I love this melody. Special mention goes to the Epic Sax Guy and «You Are The Only One » (Sergey Lazarev) for their electronic and epic feel.
