Supernova 2026: Latvia adds semi-finals to its national selection

Supernova is the national final that doesn't disappoint. Well, yes, because every year there's just one number 1 spot for dozens of talents, almost all of whom have the potential to represent their country at Eurovision.

So when we learned that the format of this national final was going to be reshaped, we started to worry. And while some broadcasters are scaling back the format by moving from 5 semi-finals across the country to a single evening (follow my eyes 🇳🇴), others like Latvia are opting instead to introduce semi-finals into their selection.

So for Supernova 2026 we'll be treated to three shows:

  • First semi-final on 31 January 2026
  • A second semi-final on 07 February 2026
  • And a grand final on 14 February 2026.

The semi-finals will choose 10 finalists by televote and jury vote, while the production team will select an eleventh candidate.

Applications are now open until 1 October.
